Hydroseeding

What is Hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is a planting process that uses a slurry of seed and mulch. It is often used as an erosion control technique on construction sites, as an alternative to the traditional process of broadcasting or sowing dry seeds.

The process basically involves using a hose to spray the mixture onto an area of land that you want the grass to be planted on. Samples of these areas are road side construction areas and erosion control areas such as steep inclines.

The best time to hydroseed is between September and March.

How does it work?

The mulch and moisture shelter your seeds from sunlight, wind, and soil erosion. In addition, it helps create a bond with the soil. However, one nifty feature of hydromulching is that as the mixture goes through its natural decomposition process, it also releases a wide range of nutrients that help your seeds
thrive.

How is it beneficial?

Spraying also means you can plant on almost any kind of erosion controlled surface, whether it’s sloped or uneven. Hydroseeding is therefore great for improving the soil quality and protecting the soil area due to heavy rains. Growth is also fast due to the nutrient boost given by the degrading mulch.
