Full Sun:

  • More than six hours of direct sun per day
  • Sites with little or no tree cover
  • or western exposures
    To determine what exposure you have for any site you should observe the site at various times during the day. Figure out when the site is in shade or sun, and determine the number of hours of sunshine and the time of day the sunshine hits your site. The morning sun is approximately six hours while the afternoon sun is approximately four hours.

Cynodon

Common Bermuda grass or Kweek is a fine leafed, green colour turf that spreads by stolons and rhizomes. It is well adapted to a wide range of soil and climatic conditions and is not shade tolerant. By far the most popular base for fine lawns. Used for lawns, fairways, hockey, and athletic fields.

Buffalo

Buffalo is reputed to exhibit exceedingly good growth when planted in alkaline, sandy soils. This grass favors sun areas, as well as damp places in coastal regions. It grows well under good moisture conditions. Grows well in sun lit areas.

Royal Blue

Adapted to a wide range of soil conditions It must be planted in full sunlight as its ability to withstand shade is very poor. It can be planted widely, over most of South Africa. Dark green in colour. The grass has an extremely high salt tolerance, and excellent heat tolerance, and can be mowed to heights of 3 mm on a regular basis. Used for lawns, fairways, hockey, and athletic fields.

Paspalum

This soft textured, short-growing grass cultivar is popularly used for golf courses and sports fields. It’s hardy and able to take a beating. This grass can tolerate about 30% of shade.
